Biography

I am a Seattle-based ceramic artist and instructor originally from the Chicago suburbs. I received my BFA in Animation from Ball State University and spent the first decade of my career in the animation and gaming industry, working as an illustrator, animator, SFX artist, and art manager. After years of creating imaginary worlds digitally, I found ceramics to be a new way to bring storytelling and creativity into the physical world.

I began working seriously in ceramics in 2020 and have since developed a practice centered around teaching, creating functional pottery, wheel throwing, handbuilding, and surface design.

My work is a love letter to imagination. I create functional objects filled with playful characters, tiny details, and unexpected moments of wonder. I'm interested in what happens when we give ourselves permission to be playful again. As we grow up, we're often taught to take ourselves more seriously, but I don't think we ever have to outgrow curiosity, silliness, or wonder. I hope my work invites people to pause, smile, and see the world with fresh eyes. 

Teaching Philosophy

As an instructor, I believe everyone is capable of making art, and that learning ceramics should be an encouraging, playful, and welcoming experience. Clay can be frustrating, messy, and humbling…but that's also what makes it such a wonderful teacher. My goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, experimenting, and learning at their own pace.

I don't believe you need to be "good at art" to deserve a place in a ceramics studio. You just need to be curious. I want my students to leave class with new skills, but also with a sense of accomplishment, connection, and permission to play. For me, teaching ceramics is about much more than making pots, it's about helping people discover what they are capable of when they give themselves the space to create.
